Stage 4/6: Registering a Freader with the Freader Hub

Now that you’ve finished building a Freader Hub you can register individual Freaders to the Hub so that the Hub can receive Freader data. This should take 15 minutes or less per Freader.

This step is about connecting the individual Freaders you use in your study to the Freader Hub. The Freaders function independently, but the only way to see and label the data they gather is through the Freader Hub. The Freader Hub generates its own WiFi network to which the Freaders will connect to send their data, and to which you will connect (e.g. from a laptop or smart phone) to view and download that data. It’s an entirely closed network that contains only the Hub and the Freaders and local devices that connect to it. This step will mainly involve accessing and following a simple software set-up wizard within the Freader Hub Wifi network.

Instructions

4.1 The tricky thing about this step is that you will need to be following the instructions below (using your normal internet access) whilst simultaneously logging into the Freader Hub Wifi to follow the set-up wizard. There are two simple ways to this.

  • Either leave this page open so you can still view it whilst you disconnect from your normal internet access

  • Or have two devices running at the same time that are connected to different internet sources.

4.2 Therefore whilst viewing these instructions, also connect to the Feedernet Admin Interface on the same or a different device. The WiFi network name is 'freaderhub'. The  WiFi password is 'badgersandfoxes'

4.3  Once connected to freaderhub wifi, open any internet browser and visit the following webpage to access the Freader Hub interface:

http://192.168.4.1/admin

The login name is 'admin'. The password is 'adminpass' .

4.4 Go to the 'Register Freader' tab towards the top of the page and follow the steps that appear on the Freader Hub interface to register a Freader. The first of 6 steps is shown here.

4.5 When you see this screen you’ve successfully Registered a Freader with the Freader Hub. You can repeat this step for as many Freaders as you are using in your study. For every new Freader you register you will have to connect the Freader Board to the Freader Hub as per steps 3.10 to 3.14

4.6 Once you have finished registering as many Freaders as you need, you can disconnect the Serial Programmer and Jumper Cables so you are left with a separated Freader Hub and Freader Board.

You have now completed Stage 4/6 ‘Registering a Freader with the Freader Hub’. When you’re ready, please move on to Stage 5/6 ‘Testing the Freader and Freader Hub’
